Deirdre McClure comes to The Phoenix Chorale with a deep love of vocal music from the operatic and choral traditions. She is currently Director of Odeon Orchestras at Bay Chamber Concerts in Rockport, Maine, and is on the faculty of the University of New England, and leads the Oakland (California) Opera Theater, an innovative and highly acclaimed small opera company commissioning and presenting works by mainstream and emerging composers. Past work includes the Oakland Community Orchestra, the Women’s Orchestra of San Francisco, the University of California Youth Music Program, as well as the San Francisco Conservatory of Music Contemporary Music Ensemble. She has toured the United States, Canada, and Mexico performing live music for silent film with the Club Foot orchestra, and composed and conducted music for a television cartoon series on CBS. McClure received both her Masters and Doctoral degrees in orchestral conducting from the Peabody Conservatory of Music. She resides with her family in Portland, Maine.
